SOLD OUT Norval Concerts: Abdullah Ibrahim
September 15 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pmR350
Recently, Abdullah was named a Jazz Master as part of the 2019 National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), alongside Maria Schneider and Stanley Crouch. Previous recipients of this award include Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, and Herbie Hancock. His latest album, The Balance, celebrates his work with long-time band Ekaya and was released in late June 2019. Recorded at London’s RAK Studios by the legendary Tony Platt, the album reached #3 in the US Billboard jazz charts and was described by NPR’s Fresh Air as “graceful… (with) equal measures of force and restraint, of dense clusters and open space.
Abdullah Ibrahim remains at his zenith, as a musician and a tireless initiator of new projects.
