Norval Concerts: Emanuele Cisi Quartet (Italy)

April 27 @ 8:30 pm - 10:30 pm

Norval Foundation’s Concert Programme is proud to present: Emanuele Cisi.
Born in Turin, Italy in 1964, Emanuele Cisi is today one of the most representative voices of the European jazz scene. A personal and refined sound, an energetic approach, combined with a deep knowledge of tradition and a strong sense of melody and swing, are the salient features of his style.

He has played with Clark Terry, Nat Adderley, Jimmy Cobb, Sting, Albert Heath, Benny Golson, Billy Cobham, Branford Marsalis, Joe Lovano, Aldo Romano, Enrico Rava, Paolo Fresu, Enrico Pieranunzi, and many others. He has performed in Europe, the USA, South America, Japan and Russia.

In 2015 and 2016 he won the Jazzit Readers Poll (hosted by the Italian magazine Jazzit) as the best Italian Tenor Saxophonist.

Besides numerous jazz albums, in recent years, he has recorded and toured as a jazz soloist with a baroque ensemble called La Venexiana, considered to be the world’s preeminent interpreter of Monteverdi’s music.

In May 2018 he recorded “No Eyes – Looking at Lester Young” produced by Warner Music – a heartfelt tribute to one of the greatest geniuses in the history of Jazz and “inventors” of the tenor sax.

He teaches Jazz Saxophone at the Conservatory of Torino.

Emanuele Cisi’s first visit to Cape Town and South Africa is supported by the Italian Institute for Culture in Pretoria (IIC) and the South African Association for Jazz Education (SAJE).

He is joined by a stellar rhythm section: Dave Ledbetter on piano and guitar, Hein van de Geyn on bass and Jonno Sweetman on drums.

Join us for a night of world-class jazz in Gallery 8.

  • Tickets cost R200 for the show.
