Norval Foundation Benefit Auction with Strauss & Co

8 December

Thursday 8 December 2022 sees us hosting the 2022 Norval Foundation Benefit Auction.

Norval Foundation Benefit Auction is an annual charity auction for the benefit of Art & Knowledge at the Foundation. Our inaugural auction held last year raised over R1.2 million to help develop and enhance Art Education at Norval Foundation. Last year’s auction, 2021, was kindly sponsored by Stonehage Fleming and hosted by Strauss & Co Auctioneers. Strauss & Co will return as auction partner again this year.

The allocation of the funds raised is used for both artistic and educational programming, as well as for the running costs of the Foundation which allows us to ensure that we are able to curate world class exhibitions and in turn ensure that every child, whether home schooled or attending private or public school, visits the Norval Foundation at least once in their primary school or high school careers. An emphasis is placed on learning with artworks, so that knowledge is not just communicated to learners, but is co-created with them through participatory activities. We believe that this educational approach aids in the development of a learner’s critical thinking and interpretative skills—something that is backed up by studies undertaken by major policy institutions and universities. In turn, these skills better prepare learners to navigate the complexities of our contemporary world as they become adults, speaking to the contribution that Norval Foundation aims to make to South African society.

The auction will be an invite only event but bidders will be able to bid telephonically and online via the Strauss & Co website from anywhere in the world. An announcement will take place as to when bidding will open.
